I was reading Frankenstein at midnight last night in our darkened house. I was the only one still awake. Suddenly there was a flash of lightning and a loud crack of thunder outside my window!  Spooky, atmospheric, and good unexpected campy fun.

So did you jump out of your skin LOL???

I've never read Frankenstein. What are you thinking of it so far?

This is the first time I've read it. I am about halfway through. The writing style is extremely dated, enough so to remove a true feeling of terror for the modern reader, but I can see where this story would have been shocking in its own time. Right now I'm not scared of Frankenstein's creation, but I do want to slap Frankenstein himself silly.

Hmmm, okay.

Somewhat related, we went to see Hotel Transylvania (or is it Transylvania Hotel?), the new animated movie, a couple weeks ago. In the movie, the monster (Frankenstein's creation) is called Frankenstein. Our son told us on the way home from the movie that it drove him crazy they did that! Maybe they thought kids wouldn't notice the difference, but he sure did.
